the NBU master server is on solaris machine i installed VCB 1.0.3 (iscsi) and the NBU integration mudule on the VCB proxy (win2003)

i followed the documentation from NBU and vmware

when i run vcbmounter manually from cli on the vcb proxy it's work fine

when i try to configure the NBU policy when i try to add clients the ( when NBU try to connect to VC and show list of avilable vm) it failed with error "failed to get vm server list" i tried to increase the timeout as suggested at symantc kb with no luck

when i try to manually add client to policy backup fail with error 156 somthing about flashcopy cant create snpahot

Yes - download the version for ESX 3.0.1 and follow the readme.html file.

Do you have all your virtual machines registered in DNS. So if you ping by name from the VCB proxy server. Also, did you follow the README document located in the zip contents of the Intergration Module that you download from VMware website? You need to have installed the Admin Console from Netbackup on the proxy server.

I have had many issues with 6.5 connecting to the VC server. Symantec claims it will be fixed in 6.5.1. Until then, I use the old bpstart_notify scripting method included with the enablement kit.

hi thanks for your replay

why do i need the virtual machine to be registered in the both VCB proxy and NBU master server can resolv the ESX servers and the VC

i don't understend the need of resolving the virtual machine names since most of our virtual machine are test environment they not register in the main dns but in internal vm dns AD environment

regarding the Admin Console yes it is installed on VCB proxy

It as actually called an integration module. You can find them near the bottom of this page:

http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/drivers_tools.html

Follow the instructions in the readme.html file

actually i just noticed this in the download section of driver and tools (the link you posted)

"Symantec has integrated support for VCB into NetBackup 6.5 and no other integration module is needed for this version."

i tried to uinstall the integration module but it still didn't help

But...I said that 6.5 does not work. You need to wait for 6.5.1 or use the integration kit that is used for 6.0.

but the intergration module are not for NBU version but gor ESX versions

Integration Module Integration to Veritas NetBackup

NetBackup for ESX Server 3.0.2

NetBackup for ESX Server 3.0.1

NetBackup for ESX Server 3.0.0

so you mean i need to use the integration module for 3.0.1 ?

i try to do what you sugessted and works just fine with the old NBU 6.0 scripts in which the VCB proxy is the NBU client and the vm are added to the backup selection and using the cross mount point options

i guess the part when you get better integration with NBU when you can use the add client to directly connect to VC and see list of vm and use the flashbackup policy type is only work in the 6.5.1 version that should be avilable in few weeks

anyway thanks for you help

No problem...I feel your frustration. I have specifically requested upgrades for a few customers expecting the VCB integration to work properly. I got it to work one out of three times at one site. I can teel you that it is NICE when it works...
