Can someone please tell me what the default username and password for the new VmWare Virtual Infrastructure Web Access is before I commit suicide ?
The quickstart guide tells me I can configure it during installation. Not so!
Anyone ?
Root and whatever password you set for root.
I've installed ESX on one server and are now trying to install VC on another. VC server is W2K3 installed into AD domain.
Installation file for VC 2.0 run, with default settings, added eval license file, not once asked for username or password.
Now I'm trying to access the web admin page on this host, and it asks me for username and password. Tried everything I can think of wothout any luck.. including root and the passwords I've never set...
So no, not Root..
When you are using the Web Access client for VC (not going directly to the host), the users and accounts are provided through NT authentication. Log in with a domain or local account with administrative rights on the Windows server you have installed VC onto. That account will also have access to the Web Access interface. Once you install VC I would suggest creating groups that you will use to give out access to VM's and the management interface and add them under the permissons tab in VC to the places they should have access.
Spot on! The VC access is your local administrative account.
Ok, thanks.. Your prop. right. I see now when I try to start the web interface locally on the server I get an error message saying "Web service unavailable".. which I'm now trying to find the solution for. It's not using IIS but Tomcat as far as I can tell, so I'm a bit confused ![]()
Okei.. I'm a bit further but still stuck.
Another post in the forum told me about some regional language problems.. So I changed Regional settings to English (US) on the server and reinstalled the package. Now I can log in at WI on the server, but I can not connect from my computer. There I get "Invalid or unknown locale provided".. both from WI and the Virtual Infra Client.
I then change regional settings back to Norwegian on the server, now I cant login there either.
If I change settings on my computer to US I can login throug WI but still not from the client. Still says "Invalid or unknown locale prov.."
IS THIS FOR REAL ????!!!!!
I refuse to go English on all the computers using the Infrastructure client.
Is this something that are going to be fixed? We cannot use webaccsess or VI-client on any workstation when using Norwegian settings. "Invalid or unknown locale provided"
I'm guessing you found one of the many bugs still in the product. My guess is that it will be fixed in a future version/patch.
This is for REAL. For us it is a total showstopper. I now regret I didn't use more time on the Betas.
For VI2.0 to install you need to install a fresh Windows with US locale, AND your desktops need to be set up with US locale to connect or you get at logon failure.
Update: A partial workaround on the desktops is to change to English (United States) on the Regional Options flip on your desktop Windows before starting VC2.0. The server still need to be freshly installed with US Regional settings tough.
You can change back to Norwegian Bokmaal or whatever as soon as you are logged in to VC 2.0 btw.

They fixed it!
Replace the contents of your loc2iso.vlcl file on the VC2.0 server with this (remember a backup):
Then set your VC 2.0 server to Norwegian Bokmaal etc. and restart (same fix MAY apply to other languages than Norwegian Bokmaal).
You clients can now connect with a Norwegian Bokmaal locale.

This bug is still present in VC 2.01. Atleast from client side. Server does atleast seem to start now with Norwegian Locale.
hi
It seems to me like this bug still is not fixed? Or am I wrong?
And I thought regional settings only messed up old programs hehehe
No you are not wrong, and this is pretty damned sad. I just upgarded to VC 2.01 Patch 2 last night and this change is not there. I have users in Asia that have been having real problems with this.
Hi,
The following solution worked for me:
I had my client configured with Hebrew (the Preferences and formats section was set to Hebrew).
I've installed Hebrew (installed right to left languages) on the VC server and restarted the VC service.
I then was able to login from the Hebrew client.
FYI,
Let me know if it worked for you...
Yaniv
