Upgraded 2 of my 3 host servers from 3.02 to 3.5 today and all went pretty well. I have noticed that the cpu and memory seems to be pretty busy when I look at the 3.5 hosts in virtual center and that kind of concerns me. I moved the vm's off the host (6 each) and upgraded them 1 at a time moving the vms to the other 2 boxes.
My question is do I need to reinstall the vmtools or was that taken car of automatically with the upgrade? I have not rebooted any of the vm's yet either could that make a difference?
Thanks
Yes, you have to update the vmtools after a ESX upgrade
And the tools upgrade will require a reboot of the vm's, correct?
Thank you
Jeff
You are right, and can riqueried up to 3 reboot (uninstall, install and new hardware detected)
Why wouldn't I just use virtual center and select install/upgrade VMWare tools on each server?
Jeff
This will work but still required to reboot your VM (manually or not)
