Hello, all.
I try to install SunBlade 8000(ESX Server), Brocade Silkworm 200E SAN and Sun StorageTek 6140(Dual Controller, Active/Passive).
I had been created volume(RAID-5) on the 6140 storage and mapped to the ESX host. but, there are some configurable parameter
for mapping the volume to the host such as "Host Type".
- Host type list
Solaris (with Traffic Manager)
Solaris (with Veritas DMP or other)
Sun StorageTek 6920/6940
Sun StorageTek 53xx NAS Gateway
Windows 2000/Server 2003 non-clustered
Windows 2000/Server 2003 clustered
Windows 2000/Server 2003 non-clustered (with Veritas DMP)
Windows 2000/Server 2003 clustered (with Veritas DMP)
AIX
AIX (with Veritas DMP)
AIX failover
IBM - SAN Volume Contoller
HPUX
Irix
Linux
Netware failover
I choose Netware failover type, because Hostmode of Hitachi UPS is Netware on the VMware documents.
I'm not sure which type will be correct for ESX Server.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.
You'll be right mate, it was a Senior Sun/StorageTek engineer that configured our SAN (including ESX LUNs) for us ...
If you mean the Host Type under Storage Systems | <your SAN name> | Physical Devices | Initiators in Sun's CAM (in my case version 5.x), then you should choose Linux.
(At least that's what we've done using a Sun 6540 SAN connecting to 3 x B8000 blades running ESX 3.0.2)
Thanks, Crowey.
I will try that.

Hi,
I use Linux host type for our Sun 6140, and Netware for our Hitachi UPS.
Cheers,
David
Thanks all,
solved the problem. STK6140 storage host type for VMware ESX is "Linux".
