Storage System Setup

Would you recommend the following configuration? I am looking to see if disk IO will really suffer.

Dell PE 2800 6GB RAM

Dell PE 4600 12GB RAM

Dell PV 220s 14 73GB 15K RPM 320

Configure the PV220s in cluster mode and have both server connected as the back end storage. Would a decrease in performance really been noticeable if both of the EMM's were connected (which they are now directly to the 2800?)

Dell PERC 4/DC in both servers. Thanks for any ideas or recommendations-

It depends on which applications are you running in the farm.

How much Disk I/O???

How many vm?

approximately 15 VM's, low IO. Only 3 or so servers will have moderate to intense IO (at night every so often when running queries).

Well, the Disk I/O is ok.

But it seems to me you have to check systems compatibility.

look at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_systems_guide.pdf

It seems to me that Dell 4600 is unsupported and that Dell 2800 is supported only with single core processors on ESX 3.0.1.

Well, have a try.

Unsupported does not means not working!

Spare servers? Ask Vmware to be a tester they could send a server to check features.
