Hi is somoene able to explain step by step how to send a SNMP trap when for example virtual machine is turned off.
i have some application which can read the snmp traps, but after using wirehark and switching of the virtual machine, Í did not collect any SNMP traps packet comming to the machine though i have configured alerts and dastination of SNMP traps. For this reason i guess that there is somethinng wrong configured in VMware side.
Thanks a lot for help

Do you want to receive them from the ESX server or VC?
Have you configured SNMP on the ESX server already?
Receiving it from the VC sounds good, the only modification i have made were in VC i have set allerts for the virtual machine (POWER OFF) and set it to send a trap.
I have also set in Administration-> VirtualCenterManagemnet server configuration SNMP receivers. This is basiacly all
Setting the receiver only configures the destination.
You also need to set up alarms. Within an alarm you can configure the actions to take if the specified state occurs.
Open the "Alarms" tab for an object (Datacenter, ESX Host, Guest) and clock on "Definitions". There you can add new alarms or edit existing ones. One of the actions you can choose is "Send a notification trap" which generates a SNMP trap.

Yes this is all i have configured but no traps are being sent, the alert occures in the VC Alert tabs but when, but definitelly the traps do not reach the destination.
Is this all that i have to configure?
Cheers
I guess this helps. There was a change in the MIB's regarding the OID.
