Relocate VM / Scheduled Task

Hi,

we buy a new SAN for the ESX environment. Now i want to move the VM (VMDK FIles) from SAN1 to new SAN. So i didnt wont to this middle in the night manually and try to do this with scheduled Tasks. but...

When the VM is off, i cann create 3 Task.

1. shutdown guest

2. relocate VM to the new SAN

3. power on VM

But When the VM is on, i cannot relocate (move the vmdk file), i can only schedule a vmotion task. I think when the VM is on, virtual center is switching automatically to a vmotion task, but i want to start a DMOTION task (move VMDK file)

Is it possible to start create a relocate VM (move the VMDK files) task when the VM is on ?

Kind regards

only if you are using ESX 3.5 and VC2.5, you would then use what is called Storage VMotion.

Otherwise, it's a cold migrate......
