Reboot SLES after VMware Tools installation

Hi,

I'm not sure if I have an issue here, but let's explain the situation: I install my Suse Linux Enterprise 10 SP2 (kernel 2.6.16.60.0-33)VM with an automatic installer (Autoyast). I included the VMware tools installation at the end of my install scripts. I know that we have to reboot the SLES VM after installing the Tools but what about if I don't ? Is the system will restart the VM automatically even if I manually updated the tools manually ?

My main question is about the rebooting process after installing the VMtools is it automatic or manual ?

Thanks to bring me more precision on it !!

Regards

Julien

this is common issue on SLES vm on ESX, if you choose automatic upgrade, it may have a chances to reboot your vm once the vmtools is been upgraded. Alternatively, you should do manual interaction vmtools upgrade, and recompile the kernel on the SLES, and restart the network services. This can prevent your VM is been rebooted.
