RDM VMotion

I have a physical RDM attached to couple of VM's. Can I VMotion them to a diff host while upgrade the other w/o breaking anything? I just wanted to check before I start VMotion a VM which has RDM attached to it.

If this RDM is shared between your VMs you cannot do VMOTION. Remember to set your SCSI adapter as shared physical if your VMs are across ESX hosts.

I guess you're working with a clustered VMs, in this case you should balance your app form VM1 to VM2, shutdown VM1 and put in maintenance mode your ESX. Now you can reinstall the ESX. When finished do the same procedure in other ESX hosts.

I've attached the SCSI Sharing option.

You cannot VMotion RDM's in physical compatiblity, mode only virtual compatibility mode. For RDM's with physical compatability mode I think you have to use a SAN tool to copy or move RDM to different LUN.
