Questions concerning Virtual Center patching

For Virtual Center, We are currently at Virtual Center 2.0.1, Build 32042. Can we simply use patch 2, or do we need to first apply patch 1? Also, after the patch upgrade, does the VC client inform the users there is a new version , or do you have to actually direct the users to uninstall/reinstall the new client?

Every release of VC is a full install which install over the current install. You do not need patch1 as a prerequisite to patch2. You do need to re-install the client afterwards, I believe anyone using the old client will receive a message to that effect when connected to the VC server.

Be careful of Patch2 and read up on it beforehand, see these links...

Hello,

When I patched my VC server I went straight to the latest as VMware packages a new VC image and not a 'patch' to the image. It is really an upgrade process using a new installer, etc. Not a patch like there is for ESX.

I did not notice any please upgrade notices when I attached older VIC to the new server. However, I upgraded from my ESX Servers once they were patched and not the VC server just to be sure that I had no problems contacting the ESX servers from the VIC.

Best regards,

Edward

Thanks - That's what I had hoped. I was just wondering if I should notify all Virtual Client users there was a new version, and then direct them where to downlaod it, and to uninstall the presious version.

BTW - great tips on your website!

Thanks, it would probably be best to notify them, they can go to the web access page of VC to easily download the new client once it is upgraded.
