Queries related to VC 2.5 Update1

Hello,

Is installing VC 2.5 and updating all patches released till date for VC 2.5 is equal to VC 2.5 Update 1 or even though we have VC 2.5 with all available patches installed should we still need to install VC 2.5 Update 1???

Thanks,

easy answer: You have to install vc 2.5 update 1. My vc runs inside a vm. I did a snapshot and fired inplace upgrade, worked very well but be sure to take the latest download from the vmware site, if you downloaded on the very first day it was released you may get probems.

There are no patches between VC 2.5 and VC 2.5 Update1 for VC. All patches are for esx.

We always use the actual releases after a short time of waiting for feedbacks within VMTN.

Folks,

My apologies...I was looking for ESX 3.5 patches and ESX 3.5 update1 not VC 2.5 / VC 2.5 U1...The reason y I am looking at this info is I have a ESX 3.5 box with latest patches installed and I am not sure if MSCS is supported on it, however ESX 3.5 Update1 supports MSCS...So I was trying to understand if ESX 3.5 with latest patches installes is equal to ESX 3.5 update 1 or not.

Thanks

From the release notes update 1 is a patch bundle with no binary updates, but it does include patches that weren't previously released (see the list below). You would need to also apply that to get to the same level as Update 1.

While MSCS is not supported prior to Update 1, numerous people have on the communities have been running it so you would be Ok for a test / training environment without update 1.

New Patches in Update 1

ESX350-200803201-UG: Upgrade to the Openwsman Protocol Adapter

ESX350-200803217-UG: Update to the mgmt-vmware Service

Note: ESX350-Update01 is a patch bundle with no binary content. It is used to install and verify all bundles in the ESX Server 3.5 Update 1 release. If ESX350-Update01 is installed using VMware Update Manager, or using an esxupdate depot, the installer will check that all Update 1 bundles are present, install them, and verify that the host has been brought up to the ESX Server 3.5 Update 1 release level. For installation using the esxupdate utility, ensure all patch bundles listed in the Requires column are downloaded to the esxupdate depot. For installation using Update Manager, ensure the ESX350-Update01 bundle is added to the baseline for remediation.
