Problems with the ESX 3.0.2-Installation

Hi!

In our company we would like to have our servers virtualized. So we build up a rack with server for testing. All of the Servers are Fujitsu-Siemens RX100 machines (Intel Celeron 2 GHz, 512 MB Ram, Fasttrack IDE-RAID mirrored with 80 GB)

I tried to install the ESX 3.0.2 in the graphical mode. All worked quite well until the system reboots. Then I have choosen the first boot-option (Normal boot). So i have got this message:

BUSYBOX error; Cannot acceess tty; job control turend off

I have searched in this forum and I found a good thread, that would perhaps help me out. But I must boot wit the third boot option (This console only thing). But there I get this error message:

Creating block devices <--- quite okay... gg

VFS: Cannot open root device "UUID=some numbers" or 00:00

Please append a correct "root=" boot option

Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00

Then some Hexdumps I think.

Can you help me please with this problems?

Thank you!

You won't have much luck with these machines.

IDE disks are not supported and 512MB memory is far too low and I'm not sure if Celeron systems are a right decision either.

I strongly recommend getting a system that's listed in the HCL

For the record I did an install of ESX on a pair of RX300 S3 FS Servers, worked pretty good, and are a competative price.

I know that there are servers out there that are not on the HCL but work - besides the RX300S3 is on the HCL.
