Port Groups and Cold Migration

Quick question, hopefully someone will be able to answer.

When doing a cold migration and moving the virtual disks from one storage unit to another does the copy of the virtual disk go through the Service console port group or does it go through the vmkernel port group? Its my understanding that the vmkernel port group is for vmotions, but I'd like to know which port group the cold migrations through.

Thanks in advance.

Peter

A copy is done via the Service Console port group.

Disconnect the nic which is used for vmotion and you will see that you still can migrate and move the files if the VM is not running.

(Do this in your lab, not on production network, especially if you use DRS)
