Poor Poor mouse performance with XP virtual machines

Ive got a few XP machines running on an ESX 3.5 system and im running the latest VC client. Mouse performance on the VM's is really bad, ive installed the latest VMware tools that gets puched out via VC and this made no difference, ive also gone in and made sure that Hardware acceleration is set to FULL which makes no difference.

Ive also gone into the device properties for the mouse and played with those settings which actually made it worse.

Are there any tricks or known problems that ive missed ?... any ideas ?

No you have hit proper configurations - I assume you are using the VI Console - do you have the same issue when you use and RDP client? if you do not than you might be having resource issues with the service console -
