Performance Very Slow...

Downoaded and installed the latest ESX on a Dell PE 860 with the default onboard hd controllers Dual Core 3Ghz, 4GB Ram. I had Windows and Linux (RH9) virtuals running. Both are VERY sluggish compared to VMware Server on another PE 860 with the exact config runnning the same virtual hosts (I converted these hosts). Seems I get CPU spikes even when the hosts are sitting idle doing nothing. Any ideas?

How many virtual machines are running in total and how many virtual CPUs are assigned to each virtual machine?

1 core per virtual, I was running both at the same time and even shut 1 down to test and it showed the same behavior. Tools are updated.

Could this be a driver problem.

I guess that the Vmware server, i on a OS, where the correct drivers are installed ?

Is the onboard controller on the HCL ?

You can check it here : http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php
