Open vmdk file

Hi, I have lost some files for a server, I only have the following 2 files, name-flat.vmdk and name.vmdk file, the flat file is 150gb file and hopefully contains all my data, I have tried to setup a new vm and when I try to power it on I get an error, I also attached the disk to another server but could not open the disk up, the hard disk showed as 2 partitions which is correct, but one was unreadable and the other one said it required formatting, there should be data on them

the name.vmdk file is the descriptor file

Is there a way I can open up the flat.vmdk file and access its contents

any advice would be really appreciated

I only really require one file and I do not have a back of it

thanks

Is the VM you created to attach it to the same type of guest o/s as the original was?

Yes, Windows 2003 box, I have tried to do a repair of windows 2003 and I am now getting The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems

Looks unlikely that I will get anything back

thanks

ok, using that windows 2003 vm with the vmdk attached, my next move would be something like recover my files or recuva (pirform.com - free). As you haven't written any data to it you might be lucky. Hope this helps...
