Ok to remove VMFS local datastore?

We gave our developers a clustered ESX environment with SAN VMFS datastores. They keep putting VM's on the local storage. Is it okay to to into the ESX host configurations and Remove this local datastore, or does ESX need it for anything? I am hesitant.

Thanks

John

We usually keep it around in case you need the storage for any type of testing and it's great for Storage VMotion, but I did remember another post awhile back that had the same issue and they were able to remove the local VMFS datastore without issue, his issue was he did it to 5 of 6 hosts and the 6th did not allow for it and he says that's how they build out their ESX Host to make sure people store the VMs on the SAN. If you run into this issue, with ESX 3.5 you can always Storage VMotion the VM from local to your SAN or shared storage.

You know how it is... Who has time to clean up after users? Thank you for the response!

If you do decide to do it and come up with some errors this helped me out.
