New install

OK so I've got my licensing, Setup my Licensing server, and my Virtual Center Server. All this was pretty easy. Now I have two ESX servers. They will be diskless and boot from SAN. I'm having a company come in to help with this part. Here is where I get confused. Making use of Vmotion how will this get installed? Do the two servers share the same volume on the san and the images sit here as well? OR do they have their own volumes and a 3rd volume for the images that they share? If they do share the same volume how does ESX Server get installed? I mean I can only imagine I have to have two instances of it (1 for each server) in order for things to work properly. And if thats the case wont I have to have a volume for each? Just curious how this is done.

That'll work for the nics. You 'll be able to team the nics for your LAN VM and DMZ NMs to provide redundancy. You could also combine the vmotion / SC network.

15 to 20 GB would be fine for the boot lun. Here's a thread on that: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=630520&#630520

Each server will required its own boot LUN and the one or more shared LUNs for storage of the disk files (VMDK files) The shared LUNs must be mapped to each ESX host with the same LUN ID for thing to work properly You would then create a VMFS partition on one server and the do a rescan on other server to see the shared storage.

OK so my network arena. I will have 2 onboard gig nics and an Intel 4 port gig card. So 6 interfaces.

I'll need 1 for the vmotion network

I'll need 1 for the service console

With the last 4 i'd like 2 to be LAN connected for the VM's connected to my LAN and then the other two seperate that will be DMZ connected for VM's that would need to go into the DMZ.

Does this sound right?

Also how large should the VMWare boot LUN's be?

WOW this has been great. Dave thank you so much!! I'm luckin in that the vendor coming in to setup the rest of the VMware environment is also the vendor that takes care of our SAN. I feel much better now knowing what will go on here and what to expect to make sure they are doing things correctly!!
