NICS not showing as 100 full despite being set that way

If 3 of 6 nics on an ESX host show as down, but all are set to 100 full -

Name PCI Driver Link Speed Duplex Description

vmnic0 04:00.00 bnx2 Up 100Mbps Full Broadcom Corporation Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-T

vmnic5 42:00.00 bnx2 Down 0Mbps Half Broadcom Corporation Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-T

vmnic1 0d:00.00 e1000 Up 100Mbps Full Intel Corporation Intel PRO/1000 PT Low Profile Quad Port PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller

vmnic2 0d:00.01 e1000 Down 0Mbps Half Intel Corporation Intel PRO/1000 PT Low Profile Quad Port PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller

vmnic3 0e:00.00 e1000 Up 100Mbps Full Intel Corporation Intel PRO/1000 PT Low Profile Quad Port PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller

vmnic4 0e:00.01 e1000 Down 0Mbps Half Intel Corporation Intel PRO/1000 PT Low Profile Quad Port PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Does it mean a server or nic problem or a network port setting error? In VC all are set to 100 full, as well as via esxcfg

esxcfg-nics -s 100 -d full vmnicyaddayadda

Please forgive me for suggesting the obvious (and probably already tried) but have you tried new network cables to the ESX nic's? Or perhaps testing to a different port on the physical switch?

Hope this helps!

I should rephrase my question - are the nics reflecting their settings or their connections to the network?

That output shows the settings, and the "Down" and "Up" shows it's connection state to the network.
