Hi, sorry I meant was it bandwidth logs (can be found in VC under VM_Name performance) or was it something else? As far as I've seen the only nic related items that get logged by ESX are the initialization etc..

Thanks,

Neil

gkt145,

are you looking for the physical server nic logs? i.e. ESX nic logs

or are you looking for nic logs from the VM? i.e. window/linux nic logs.

VM NIC Configuration file would be <VMName>.vmx which you will be able to find out from the same directory where you created VM, by default.

All other VM functional logs would be vmware.log* which would be there in the same location as *.vmx file

Maybe just let everyone know what your looking for in these logs (to help point you in the right place) or what your trying to troubleshoot

Well, in Windows, you could take a look at the System logs under EventViewer. I'm not sure how comprehensive of a network adapter log you would get from there, since (in my experience) those logs are helpful only in cases of errors. That's as far as my Windows knowledge goes.

In linux, you can take a look at /var/log/messages, and depending on the network adapter driver module load options, you could optionally load them with debug logging enabled and take a look.

Hope that helps,

Hello,

You can only get up down status by default.... /var/log/vmkernel hosts those. Traffic logs etc, are not possible through normal means.

gkt145,

Based on your previous statement,

<span class="jive-thread-reply-body-container"> i am looking for virtual machine nic logs? (i.e. Windows / Linux logs)

and your current statement,

<span class="jive-thread-reply-body-container">I need to know from ESX host can we get any logs for the same.

I'm confused now.

It might be helpful, as paintcheck200 mentioned, if you could share what exactly are you trying to troubleshoot.

Thanks,
