Either works and really depends on what is on the share.
Method 1) Everything is handled from the VI Client and you can see what is on the share from the VI Client and that the mount is active. You can also put common ISO and floppy images on the mount point to be accessible from the VMs.
Everything here can be made accessible by the VMs as either an ISO or floppy image.
Method 2) Everything is handled from the Service Console. THere is no visibility within the VI Client. Nothing is accessible to the VMs as either an ISO or floppy image. VI Client users can not see the patches.
I like limiting Mount points so I may opt for Method 1, but for security I like Method 2. Depends on your security stance more than anything, and the usage of the Mount point.
