you can install the virtual center client on a windows box and then point it at the ip of each of the esx hosts when you load it, u dont have to install the server components

I use SNMP to monitor the ESX servers and the Clients (and a whole lot of other stuff).

A bit more work but it is worth it to be able to see all the components when a user complaines, and I use the same systems ( Orion ) to do notifications and paging.

VMWare ships with a fairly complete MIB.

I'm interested too.

Where i can found the OID for VmWare ESX/ESXi?

Then, there is something to setup for to allow the agent poll the servers?

thanks

SNMP

Configure on server

  1. vi /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

syscontact carmichh@staff.abanet.org

syslocation Chicago_LL2_deckard01_BL1

rocommunity xxxxxxxx

trapcommunity xxxxxxxx

trapsink orion

  1. VMware MIB modules……

dlmod SNMPESX /usr/lib/vmware/snmp/libSNMPESX.so

  1. esxcfg-firewall –e snmpd

  2. chkconfig snmpd on

  3. service snmpd start

Add to Orion

On console add node

Add to ES Mail monitored objects and ES 24x7 monitored Network Objects
