We have a 3.03 server whose VMs we'd like to move to a new 3.5 server. We currenty don't have vCenter, but might be purchasing soon.
Is vCenter how I'll be moving them over? Is there another way without using it?
Thanks
ESX 3.5 is very close to end of support. Is there a reason not to go to 4.0?
You can use Converter to move the VMs (p2V), actually copy, to another host.
We run it kinda funky. On an IBM Blade system that currently does not support 4.0. It has to do more with integration with an iSeries box that houses the SAN.
How soon is end of support?
You say Converter does P2V - what about V2V? I used Converter to get most of these VMs from P to V, so hopefully I can use it in this fashion.
We'll be purchasing vCenter, but not for a bit.
thanks for the reply
May it will go in to Extended support for ESX 3.5 Update 5. See http://www.ntpro.nl/blog/archives/1411-Announcing-End-of-Availability.html
Converter will do V2V - just like a P2V.
perfect - thanks for the prompt replies
