Migrate/Covert ESX 2.5.x VM template to ESX 3 template

I did the in-place upgrade from ESX 2.5.3 to ESX 3.0.0 im my home lab environment. And all the VMs be upgraded successfully (ofcourse after upgrade to VMFS-3 and upgrade VM virtual hardware).

But my question is how to re-use the previous VM template (vmtd) ? Is there a way to covert/migrate ESX 2.5.x template to ESX 3 teamplate ?

BTW, the VC2.0 is a fresh install. I didn't upgrade the old VC1.3 to VC2.

Thanks!

What about your DB?

You can find your old Templates in Administration --> legacy Templates

Hope this Helps

Did you have local templates in VI2? Are they on local disk on the VCMS.

Then the Legacy Templates will work.

If not - you need to browse the datastore --> click on the vmtx file and add to inventory.

I'm not able to see the old Templates from legacy Templates. Remember, I did a fresh installation of VC2 (not upgrade from VC1.3)

Select the summary tab of a host.

On the right you should see all the datastores that that server can see. Double click the datastore and you can browse to the templates directory.

Thanks.

I'm able to add the template to the inventory. But after I covert it to VM, I'm not able to power it on. And I lost the connection between VC2 and ESX3 server.

Any idea ?
