Is it legal to purchase licenses outside our region?

Hi all,

I'm from Muscat, Oman and the distributor for this region is Magirus. I already sent a Request for Quotation to them today but didn't get any reply.

I did a quick search in Sparco in US and I found that their price of VI3 Starter Edition 2 processors is $866 which I find pretty good. We have been procuring from them for years and we are happy to purchase from them for our vmware requirements (or any reseller who is happy to sell to international customers) AS LONG AS this move is legal. I'm asking this question because Autodesk, for example, restricts companies to only purchase their products from the region where the software will be used.

I wanted to ensure that we will not be violating vmware's licensing Terms and Conditions.

Thanks.

Regards, Archie

I just asked this same question! According to our sales rep, you DO NOT need to purchase the licenses "in country" like you do with AutoDesk.

I've asked this question repeatedly and have always been told that it's fine to buy them in the US and allow the hosts to connect home to tag the license server. We're serving licenses to England, Japan, and India.

This is great in Oregon where there's no sales tax. Anyone want me to host a license server for them?

Thanks for all your replies.

So this will be hosted in SQL Server or Oracle with the VI3 license dB.

Can you please provide the website of the company you work for so that I can look at your prices?

If you can recommend vmware resellers in US that has online shopping and accepts international order, please list them down here.

Regards,

Archie
