Hello All,
I had the document in the past but lost it, can someone point me to some official VMware documentation that states if it is good or bad to install additional software on the ESX Service Console. I have a customer that is complaining about performance issues (the only one out of many oethsr) and they want to install some software onto ESX 3.0.3 U3 to show the performance issues are coming from the host itself and not their aaplication. VM running this app is MS Server 2003 1vCPU 1024MB RAM VMware tools are upto date, performance in VIC shows they are not using but upto 25% of allocated resources now.
So I need official documentation to show if it is good or bad to install additional software on ESX, I really think it is ther app and not ESX. It is always so easy for customers used to the physical world to blame VMware for their performance issues.
Thank you.
I just found this doc for ESX 3.x:

I do not have a official reference...
But ESX a custom environment... you change some packages or add new packages you can broke stability...
Or simple broke VMware support

I believe Support's position is that it is OK to run 3rd party agents, but at your own risk.
Every instance is going to be different though. You need to uninstall the software and see if it makes any difference.

Thank you Andre, I am aware of that too :). I just need official documentation for the higher up's, it is hard to convince them with out something in black and white (although I've been doing this for over 3 years now)
