INSTALLING HP FIRMWARE MAINTENANCE CD ON HP DL380 G5 SERVER PRIOR TO ESX INSTALL

Hello, I instaled the latest BIOS, but am having problems installing the Firmware Maintenance CD v8.40. After the HP Smart update Manager scans the server, it says I am using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and wants to update. Someone in an earlier post said it should say VMware.....I could not find a way to pick VMware, so I went ahead and use what HP reccomended.

Does anyone remember what happened when they ran this?

Try to unplug HDDs and re-run CD with FW updates. You should update RBSU, ORCA, iLO2, NICs, etc... no matter OS installed.

In order to update HD FW, leave one HD in chasis while running FW CD, so it cannot recognize OS... repeat operation for every drive...

You may try to leave more than one HD at once, depending on your HW RAID level, just be sure the quantity of drives is not enough to recognize RAID structure and OS

Once your server is booted from the firmware CD reports linux OS!!

It's not describing your OS as your OS isn't running. It's reporting the OS of the boot and system on the Firmware Update CD..

Leave your drives in and simply continue.
