I am sure this is similar to the blade center type issues, but I can't find anything helpful. Basically when I use the web interface thru the RSA II card and start a remote control session the keyboard is dysfunctional. It doesn't type in the remote control window. Some regular letters are recognized as arrow keys.
This doesn't lead to easy remote installs.
Any ideas. For now I'm going to sit at the console and do the thing.
I think the best way to do so, is to logon to the RSAII board and first of all do an firmware upgrade. Firmware is downloadable with IBM, connect with internet explorer to your RSA II board, logon USERID PASSW0RD, and do the firmware upgrade.
p.s. this is more likely a ibm problem than a vmware problem
how many blades do you have ? If more than 20 you can consider to use ibm director's Remote Deployment Manager software (is not free;-()
The firmware is up to date.
We have 50 or so blades. But this is not a blade. The interface is similar to that of a blade, which had problems installing ESX in graphical mode without specific parameters being set when beginning installation.
you can also try the latest update xpress cd to see if the overall firmware level of the system is up to date.
we have 8 x366 and i installed them all trough the RSA II
even the older firmwares worked..
when i remember correct the ESX install doku says not to use RSA, ILO,ILOM.... to install becouse some errors may happen...
have u testet something other like an suse install or win2k3?
Use text mode on these or graphical installer from the console.
Stupid question but how did you get ESX3 to see RSA II in the first place? I inserted RSA II today in our x345 and I don't see it anywhere.
1) If it is in a PCI slot, then make sure the RSA is in the correct slot as specified by the manual.
2) If there are any connecting cables w/ the RSA, make sure they are not required for use w/ your server type.
3) Boot into F1 BIOS
> Advanced Settings> RSA II
4) You have to download the correct RSA II BIOS / firmware onto the adapter for the system type you have.. see the IBM support web pages.
