How to use perfmon to do vm sizing

Hi folks,

Is it possible to just get info via perform to do the necessary sizing for vmware? I'm in a situation where I can't use the VMware tool & have to use perfmon only.

Advise?

Of course you can collect statistical performance with perfmon on Windows in order to do capacity planning.

Be sure to select relevant counters (CPU, mem, I/O disk, I/O net) and to do the collect as long as possible (one month is good).

On the other hand you'll have to analyse result manually by yourself...

You can take a look particulary to these counters :

\Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time

\Memory\Available Bytes

\PhysicalDisk(_Total)\Disk Transfers/sec

\PhysicalDisk(_Total)\Disk Read Bytes/sec

\PhysicalDisk(_Total)\Disk Write Bytes/sec

\Network Interface(Network Adapter)\Bytes Total/sec

Hope this helps
