How to get the best performance on VMESX3.0.2

Hi, All

I have the following four HP Proliant DL385 G2 servers.

esx001 ( two AMD CPU + 16GB mem)

esx002 ( two AMD CPU + 16GB mem)

esx003 ( two AMD CPU + 8GB mem)

esx004 ( two AMD CPU + 8GB mem)

I installed VMESX3.0.2 on the servers above and configure vmware HA.

Then, I installed RHEL4 U4 32bits on esx001 with 2vCPU + 8GB virtual mem.

However, the CPU load average of the guest OS sometimes reaches over 10. And our clustered app sometimes

failover to another node. I am not sure whether it is related to our guest OS spec. I wonder whether it is recommened

to set the guest os with full spec which is 4 vCPU + 16GB virtual mem.

Q1. When adding virtual CPU, wizard shows me that changing the number of virtual cpu may make guest os unstable?

I wonder what it is?

Q2. When adding virtual mem, wizard shows me that full vitual mem will get the best performance. I have some other

virtual OS on the same esx server. Setting the guest OS to full 16GB virtual mem is possible to effect other guest OS

performance on the same ESX server.

Any idea to achieve the best performance for all virtual guest OS on VMESX3.0.2?

It's a warning, for people that may not take into account the guest OS capabilities.

They will tell you that, but it depends on the OS.
