How to get IP Adresses of VMs on ESXi

If have set up VM in Linux (eg. Suse 8.1, 9.1 and 9.3) on ESXi 3.5 and ESXi 4.0, but seem do not get IP-Adresses assigned from DHCP to the Vms itself

(worked well for ESXi itself with e.g. 192.168.0.17). The VMs have networkadapters like E1000 or "Flexibel", both seem not to work.

One step I want to try is a rsync between two VMs, and thereafter a rsync between a remote PM to a local VM.

Is there any solution? Many thanks for help in advance ...

Can you check to see if you have port-security on your physical switch? It may be denying requests to the switch port from more than one MAC address. Also, make sure that the network adapter states that it is checked connected .

Thanks for your hint.

When doing the remote P2V, the helper maschine received her IP and name very well, so I think it is nothing with the local physical infrastructure but rather something in Linux oder Vmware, that I do not see.

The VM's are on the same network segment as the ESXi? You setup VM switches, those switches need to be a range on the DHCP scope. Also are you sure you aren't out of DHCP addresses?

According to the logs (see attached line 28 ff) there seems to be a question with localhost.localdomain vs 192.168.0.17 (both from ESXi),

which I do not understand. Both values were set up during installation automatically. In addition there seems to be a SSL topic.
