Guest NIC connection status mapped to physical NIC

I'd like to know if there is any way to map a guest NIC to a physical host NIC so when a cable is physically unplugged from the host my guest knows it.

The newest version of Workstation has this feature, but ESX does not yet have it.

your guests are attached to vSwitches which are attached to pNICs. So, if you only have 1 pNIC mapped to a vSwitch, your guest will definatly know if it goes down.
