General System Error after Migration

I migrated a VM from esx 2.5.3 to esx 3.0.1. The migration returned a "General SYstem Error. The upgrade failed Please shutdown the virtual machine and complete the migration" The VM appeared on the new 3.0.1 host. I shut it down. The Upgrade Virtual hardware option was available so I upgraded it. The system booted and I was able to upgrade vmware tools. . .and the VM seems to function OK. . .

We had another VM fail with the system error but that was a result of not enough disk space. For the VM above, there was plenty of disk space.

Should I be worried about the error since the VM works? Has anyone else seen this?

Any insight is appreciated

Thanks,

Jeff

Any other errors in the logs (host and new vm)? If it's running - let it run for a while and see what happens.

I need to dig deeper but i was consumed with getting our other host up to 3.0.1. . .one interesting thing I did find was that on an old VMFS2 LUN, there are still vmdk's from the VM. . .it appears they are not being modified anymore and the VM shows that it's disk files are all on the new VMFS3 volume. . .

I will let the VM run and watch for additional issues

It's very strange. . .

How did this turn out for you, we just experienced the same error. We also had plenty of space on the target LUN. The source LUN vmdk is still there with an old time stamp. The target LUN has the files below, we have not shut it down yet:

-rw------- 1 root root 268435456 Mar 7 14:48 bl-uits-imsmd1-05082068.vswp

-rw------- 1 root root 0 Mar 7 14:48 bl-uits-imsmd1.vmsd

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1841 Mar 7 14:48 bl-uits-imsmd1.vmx

-rw------- 1 root root 258 Mar 7 14:48 bl-uits-imsmd1.vmxf

-rw------- 1 root root 16777216 Mar 7 15:03 DMotion-scsi0:00_imsmd1-delta.vmdk

-rw------- 1 root root 307 Mar 7 14:48 DMotion-scsi0:00_imsmd1.vmdk

-rw------- 1 root root 8664 Mar 7 14:48 nvram

-rw-rr 1 root root 73783 Mar 7 14:48 vmware-0.log

-rw-rr 1 root root 95560 Mar 7 14:48 vmware-1.log

-rw-rr 1 root root 114135 Mar 7 14:48 vmware-2.log

-rw-rr 1 root root 201181 Mar 7 14:48 vmware-3.log

-rw-rr 1 root root 42368 Mar 7 14:58 vmware.log

I assume the DMotion files will be changed to the standard vmdk when we shutdown and upgrade.
