AFAIK, It's not possible

The procedure is:

\- file level backup: no export

\- full VM backup: export of a set of 2 GBytes files on the VCB and then backup

VCB is a data mover so if you want to make your vmdk backup through the san without exporting it to your VCB proxy you have to script it and use the ESX instead of VCB.

Sure,

if you want to script yourself with vcbmount etc... you can do it!

I was answering as per VCB infrastructure with VCB Proxy Server.

Not sure about a vbc, but it is possible with a VBA. Check out www.esXpress.com and go to download. You can try full version for 30 days, or use the free version forever.

But I am biased as I work there. Best to do is to try each solution and see what works for you in your environment.

So basically, you are wanting to get around the fact you may need a heap load of disk space on the VCB proxy host? If that is the case, there is no native way to get around it with what VCB can provide you. On the otherhand, you can use 3rd party tool that can redirect the IO stream elsewhere and that would eliminate the need for disk space on the proxy host.
