Farm Monitoring Tools

I have been tasked with finding a monitoring solution for our farm. This basiclly would need to monitor cpu, memory, and disk sizes and be able to publish reports on a needed basis. I know the I could go through VC to do this but I was lookign for a more robust monitoring of the esx hosts than VC. Any ideas would be great. I was looking at a product from Uptime software that seems pretty good.

Uptime is great, you can also use vKernel's product as well. http://www.vkernel.com/products/CapacityAnalyzer/

You should look at Vizioncore (http://www.vizioncore.com/). They updated their suite of products. They announced this at VM World, available by EOY.

vOptimizer Pro and vConverter are new products, but they are enhancing vCharter (performance) as well.

They are introducing a new product that will dynamically resize VM's, monitor their perofrmance, and set thresholds for temp files etc.. so that when it's necessary, it cleans and defrags the VM automatically.

If you're talking about the Hyper9 tool which was demo'd at VMworld, I do not believe it has been officially released just yet. However, this is going to be an awesome web based tool that I can't wait to get my hands on.

i'd recommend vFoglight (formally vCharter pro). it's web interface will provide you what you are looking for and also provide vm modeling and trend forcasting for capacity planning. it's built on quest's foglight framework.

With regards to your search for the monitoring tools...what have you tested so far? If money is not a constraint is there a tool that is the most highly recommended?

I was at a VMUG this week and got to see a demonstration of vFoglight. It looks like the type of tool I've been searching for, but I have to evaluate other products as well ...
