Expanding a logical drive of a virtual server

Hi,

Can anyone tell how to expand my virtual servers logical drive c: as im currently running out of disk space?

At present this server is currently running on ESX 3.0.1 VC 2.5 and when the Vsever was first created, it was only given 6Gb of disk space as now we are in a situation whereby it is full.

I'm able to increase the logical dives for virtual severs running on ESXi 3.5 but not on my ESX 3.0.1 hosts

Any thoughts and Thanks in advance.

shut down the VM.

SSH to your ESX host and go to the folder where the VM resides (e.g. cd /vmfs/volumes/LUNX/.vmdk

this will increase the .vmdk file to a total of 30 GB.

then boot the VM on CD with partition magic, paragon partition manager or a like tool and resize the c-drive from there.

An alternative method for expanding the c-drive which also works can be found here:

With old ESX you have to expand the disk with VM powered-off.

Then you have to "expand" your C: (for example using Dell ExtPart).

Or you can use converter ad make a V2V to build a new VM with new disk size.

you can edit settings with vm powered off, "expand" a disk required.

and have a diskpart of windows that can extend partition on windows.

after expand a disk, check at management of disk, mantain how unallocated

, list a volume (list volume) select a volume (select volume X) and extend command

MauroBonder, the expand feature from within VI client is not available in v3.0.1. Diskpart cannot extend an active system partition.
