Hi,
We're looking to upgrade ESX servers in one of our HA clusters from ESX 3.0.1 to ESX 3.0.2 Update 1 and was wondering whether to use the ESX update utility or upgrade from the CD? We have a base 3.0.1 installed no other updates. Virtual centre has already been upgraded to 2.0.2 update 3 ready.
I have a CD with ESX 3.0.2 update 1. and have also downloaded the esx-upgrade-from-esx3-3.0.2-61618.tar.gz archive ready.
If I was to use the upgrade archive, after extracting the files and placing the host into Maintenance mode do I need to reboot the ESX host to the Service Console (troubleshooting mode) before running the esxupdate -n update?
Thanks
Matt
i have used esxupdate without problem.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do I need to reboot the ESX server to the service console (troubleshooting mode before running the update?
Thanks
Matt
yes, is a good idea to verify that non problem during boot phase.
Use esxupdate -n and verifiy that non error during upgrade.
Good luck
Alberto
But do I need to reboot ESX into the service console (troubleshooting mode) before running esxupdate?
absolutely no.
Superb. Thanks for the prompt reply.
