ESXi 4.0.0 Wrong Available Space for DATASTORE on DELL 2950

Hi Community Smiley Happy

Well We have just brought new DELL 2950 Server , with following Hard/w Config.

750GB x 6 SAS Disk , RAID 10 configured.

2 x 2.83 Quad Core Xeon Processor

32 GB RAM

we have installed ESXi 4.0 , and use the client vSphere for Managing host , our problem is when we try to add "datastore " it always shows only 45GB space available , while Storage contoller shows correct disk size as 2.0T , we have tried rescanning and refershing the controller and Disks , but nothing helps ,

Any suggestion on how should we make our 2.0T disk as available space for DATASTORE ? Please see atacched JPG for problem

Regards & Thanks

With PERC controller you can create several Logical Disk inside your RAID5 container.

Be sure that each "disk" is < 2TB.

Welcome to the forums,

The partition you created is over 2TB in size which is the limit for ESX. I would advise to create multiple smaller volumes. for instance 4 x 512GB or 2 x 1TB.

Hey Guys ,

Thanks agian , Problem Solved! so here is what i did ,

Created 2 Virtual Disk from PERC controller ( RAID 5) each one as 1.4TB ( I have 750Gb x6 total Phisical Disks ).

Then Reinstalled ESXi 4 , and selected DISK0 for Installation , after Installtion ESXi 4 automatically took both Virtual Disk for DATASTORE as 1.36TB each , please attached JPG .

now will test the performance ,

Thanks & Regards
