ESX 2.5.x in VC 2.0.2

I am working with a client which has three ESX 2.5.x hosts with no existing VirtualCenter. Will I be able to add them to a new VC 2.02 instance for the purpose of migration to new VI3 hosts using VMotion with disk relocation? Any licensing issues with adding the ESX 2.5.x hosts?

All the migrations I have done so far from ESX 2.5.x have already had an existing VC 1.x manging them.

Thanks,

Yes, VC2 can manage ESX 2.5 server. You can also use Dmotion if the ESX3 hosts can see the ESX2 VMFS volumes if they are on shared storage.

Hello,

Just to clarify my question. If I add a ESX 2.5.x host to VC2, will it use up a ESX Server VC agent license during the migration?

Thanks,

Yes it will use up an ESX license in VC2. I just tried adding a ESX 2.5 server to my VC2 server and it said there were not enough licenses to perform the operation (mine are all in use by ESX3 servers).
