Driver Not Found

Hello,

When attempting to install VMWare on an Asus KFN4-D16/SAS I am receiving a "Driver not found" error message. I believe this is related to the SCSI controller. The hardware is listed on VMWare's compatibility list. When I try to manually specify a driver (using the files from the LSI website) it doesn't pick anything up. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Hello,

Use, if doing a graphical install, 'ctrl-alt-f2' else alt-f2, then alt-f3 and alt-f4. At each alt-f3 and alt-f4 review the installation logs for any errors. You can use 'shift-pgup/pgdn' to go through the logs. Look for if it finds the SAS controller.

Generally, this error is a 'will not'. Providing third party drivers (not from VMware ) is a huge no no, you may get it to install but the vmkernel will not find the device and your system will refuse to boot.

I suggest you get a PCI/PCIe controller or a system listed on the HCL. Also, embedded controllers are NOT listed on the HCL. The HCL is generally talking about PCI/PCIe devices. embedded controllers usually have different firmware than the PCI/PCIe devices. ESX is looking purely for the proper registration of the PCI/PCIe devices, if it does not see the proper numbers for the controller(s), they are unknown. White box embedded controllers have this issue.

Best regards,

Edward

Hey, it turns out I think that error was related perhaps to the CDROM which is also SATA attached. I did an install over the FTP and HTTP and both worked with the STORAGE CONTROLLER. Thanks for your response!
