Dell PowerEdge 1800 with SATA hd

We are planning to purchase VI 3 Starter and virtualized up to 4 servers.

Is it possible to install VI 3 Starter onto a Dell PowerEdge 1800 which has 2 x 3.2ghz Xeon with 4GB / 2 x 80GB Sata Raid 1 (OS) 4 x 320GB Sata RAID 0+1 (VM Partitions). I read something about the that VI 3 is not compatible with any Sata drives?

Thanks in advance

You can install the ESX OS on most SATA, just not the VMFS Partition for your VM's.. That has to be a SCSI for NFS,iSCSI,SAN or local SCSI..

Sometimes the ESX sees the SATA RAID as SCSI and lets you do it, but its not supported..

It is similar to the 1850.

The main concern is the CERC SATA RAID Controller.

It has to be exact if as far as the HCL goes..

Ive have done installs on Dells and it detected the SATA as SCSI ,so all well (these weren production though..) unfortunately ive had some not see the SATA controller as SCSI so it didnt work..

Again if you after complete support and piece of mind then best to follow HCL...
