Changing from Host-based to Server-based licensing....

We currently have one ESX 3.0 server running on a stand alone IBM x345 with its own internal hard drives. The rest of our VI3 infrastructure runs on IBM Blade Servers and our SAN. We are wanting to move the stand alone server to a blade and I am wondering what needs to be done in regards to it's licensing. It currently has a host-based license file. The version of VMware on it is VI3 Starter Edition but we purchased a Standard to Enterprise Upgrade for it so that it can participate in VMotion, HA, etc. Any input would be appreciated.

You would need to regenerate your .lic file if you wish to move from host to sever based..

Do you have Virtaul Center, as this would be required for VMotion or DRS..?

We do have Virtual Center Server 2.0.1 Build 33643 installed here. I went to the URL referenced in the URL from your post but I do not see an option to regenerate the license file. I have a heck of a time navigating the licensing pages...:(

Hi,

Chapter 3 of the Installation and Upgrade Guide is devoted exclusively to licensing. You should find what you need there.
