Can not run 64 bit guest on new DL585 G5

Hello,

I was able to run 64 bit guests on DL585 G2. (I use ESX 3.0.1)

After I moved my Hard Drives to a new server DL585 G5 with four Opteron 8354 quadro cores, I can not run 64 bit on it anymore. I get a message

"attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode" when I start VM. I can not belive that G2 can run it, and G5 can not.

I enabled AMD virtualisation in BIOS and it did not help. I have the latest BIOS version A07

I did not run CPU check utility.

Please advise.

Thank you a lot in advance

There was a previous thread about the newer quad core AMD CPUs not being supported on 3.0x. There was an annoucement from AMD () saying that quad core was supported at ESX 3.5u1

Looking at the hardware supported matrix it looks like 3.5 U1 was the first release that supported the quad core AMD CPUs. =

Thank you, Craig

I looked at the Hardware / Software compatibility list too. My CPU Opteron 8354 is not listed in there for DL585 G5

The one that listed in there (Opteron 8356) seems to be from the same family 835x and it looks like supported with 3.0

HP ProLiant DL585 G5 Quad Core AMD Opteron 8356 Quad-core AMD Opteron 835x series

ESX 3.5 U1, ESXi 3.5 Embedded U3, ESXi 3.5 Embedded U2, ESXi 3.5 Embedded U1, ESXi 3.5 Installable U3, ESXi 3.5 Installable U2, ESXi 3.5 Installable U1, ESX 3.0.3, ESX 3.0.2 U1

The one that is compatible starting from 3.5 is Opteron 838x series on DL585 G5

Yes, looks like if you moved up to at least 3.0.2 U1 from 3.0.1 you might be in business...
