under the vSwitch, next to NIC card when I click the icon so it brings up the Cisco Discovery Protocol info, but it is all blank? it could be because CDP is disabled on the Physical switch? i dont have access to the physical switch so i am wondering... does it have to be enable? thanks.
If it is on LISTEN is ok, it is enabled to receive the CDP packets. Check this out in order to help enabling it on your swithces.

Do at the service console: esxcfg-vswitch -b
If this do not work, check your physical switch.

yes
If is ESX 3.5 you should see it. If is 3i, you have to use RCLI.

I can see it now, and it is set to Listen... should I change this so I can see CDP info under ESX config?
