Add SATA disk to Vmware Server

Hi

I am testing the ESX 3.5. This new version is supporting SATA disks.

My Server has two disks. One IDE(with 100Gb), and a SATA disk with 500Gb

I want to install the ESX on the IDE, and use the SATA disk to hold the Virtual Servers

In the installation of the ESX the Vmware recognize the SATA(as SCSI) and the IDE disks. I choose to install the VMware Server into the IDE disk. All is ok, the VMware is installed and fully functional. But i have i cant see the SATA this. In this case the disk must be a /dev/sda, but i have no /dev/sba

I reinstall the ESX into the IDE again, but this time i choose advanced on the partition, and then add the sda partition, and choose as vmfs3. But still have no /dev/sda on the Linux console.

So the question is, how to add this SATA disk to hold the Virtual Servers? How can i add this disk fully functional in the ESX Server?

Thanks you

JailBreak

Take a look at this posting here - http://communities.vmware.com/message/834672#834672. The device id 037f is the MCP55 SATA controller so you'll want to substitute that pci id for what is used in the posting.

What model of motherboard and SATA controller are you using and do you see the SATA controller listed when you run the command lspci at the console? If so, what is it recognized as / PCI device does it have?

But in the instaltion of the ESX the Vmware recognice the SATA disk and asks if i want ti install on it. So why i have no SATA controller in here?

Take a look at this posting here - http://communities.vmware.com/message/834672#834672. The device id 037f is the MCP55 SATA controller so you'll want to substitute that pci id for what is used in the posting.
