Add Extent question

Hi

I want to add more space to my SAN Datastore so I have extended it on the SAN ok with no problems.

Now I need to extend it on ESX 3.0.1 server.

Step by step:

- Choose Host > Configuration Tab

- Storage > Select the Datastore

- Click on Add Extent > I can now see the total space and the the Available Space > Next

- Current Disk Layout windows > Now here I have a "Warning: The Current disk layout will be distroyed. All file systems and data will be lost permanently"

Does this means that the VM's that I laready have on this Datastore will be deleted and lost forever or does it mean that any data on the new space that will be added will be lost because of the VMFS3 format procedure.

In a nutshell, will I loose my existing VM's on this DS if I carry on?

Thanks, ii

From the GUI you cannot add an extent using free space on the same LUN.

But you can do from CLI using vmkfstools command.
