A little advice on upgrading 5 blade servers from ESX 3 to ESX 3.5

I want to upgrade my ESX 3 blades to ESX 3.5. I just wanted to check to see if anyone experienced any issue in their upgrades.

My setup:

5 esx 3 host servers installed 2 years ago runnig no problems

2 new esx 3.5 host servers installed (cleant install) last year.

We dont use Vcenter so no Vmotion or Clustering

IBM SAN shared between all blades VMFS 3 filesystem.

I will do the upgrade option from disk on each esx 3.0 blade after shutting down all running VMs on that blade.

Is there anything else I may need to look out for? I just downloaded the Upgrade Guide but dont want to miss anything.

Thanks in advance

Rodney

Solaris 10 clients if you are going from 32 -> 64 bit

Solaris will automatically detect the new 64bit CPU and kill itself on startup.

Just change the type of Solaris in Summary | Settings | Options | Guest OS | Solaris

Since you don't have HA, you don't have to do anything to the cluster. After you power off the blade, I would probably consider detaching the fiber to the san....just to be extra cautious...
