study materials for VCP

Hello

I was wondering jf the materials given by VMware Class are enough to pass the exam?

Or does the Bill Ferguson books go into more details and examples?

thank you

Hi Tippet,

My experience is that those people who have just done the ICM course without any hands on experience of the VMware products have a very high failure rate (My opinion, not backed by statistics).

There are a number of resources that you could access to get the experience you need to pass the VMware exams (If you don’t already):

  1. The ICM course (I'm assuming you have now completed, as this as it’s a prerequisite to getting the VCP certification. http://mylearn.vmware.com/portals/certification/
  2. The VMware Education certification books are great (You have mentioned one author) but can get dated very quickly as certification blueprints are updated. http://www.pearsonitcertification.com/topics/topic.aspx?st=87566
  3. Video based training is great for visual learners like myself (eg. Pluralsight (Formally Trainsignals) and CBT Nuggets). There are often free trails which you can do the training for a month and then pay if you feel you need additional time or you have other certifications (From other vendors too) you wish to pursue. https://www.pluralsight.com/ https://www.cbtnuggets.com/it-training/vmware-training
  4. VMware Hands-on-labs are a fantastic resource. Live lab environments you can either follow the training or go into to test certain things you have learnt without fear of breaking anything. The best part is its FREE.http://labs.hol.vmware.com/
  5. Your company’s environment! There is no better learning environment than doing it in wild. Obviously this comes with a health warning but the more the use vSphere (I assume you are talking about doing the VCP6-DCV) the easier the exam will become.

Hope this helps and good luck in getting your certification

I took the course but I've been away for awhile. I guess I will start over the course material and a lab environment.

thanks again.

Focus all your preparations around the objectives/topics covered in the exams. Each of the 2 exams (vSphere Foundations and VCP6-DCV) has it's own web page where you can review the objectives, start here: VCP6-DCV Certification
