WOW Passed me VCP510 today!

With the deadline fast approaching I thought better get in there and sit the 510 before its too late but due to some family issues and the like got absolutley no study time or pratice on me lab.

So off I trott this afternoon thinking that i've just wasted 180 quid but to my suprise I managed a pass, not a great pass mind but hey a pass is a pass right?  :smileymischief:

So now i can relax and get back to worrying about all the other crap in my life.....!!!!

It seems to be taking longer than the normal 2 weeks for people to get anything from VMware, due to the sheer number of people who've taken a VCP exam in the last month.

Well being a VCP4 already i had a pretty good grounding but Simon Longs blog is a good source of info but I would suggest building a home lab and just get stuck in.

The VMWare blueprints are pretty good as are there free practice exams, don't get to hung up on the testkings or the like as you wont be able to hold your own when questioned by someone who know what they are doing in an interview!!!

I bought a Netgear ReadyNAS which supported iSCSI an ultra I think but to be honest I only ever setup an NFS datastore so you could get a cheaper one.  Although I'm pretty sure that the one I got was vm certified or supported which is why I paid more in the first place.

As for books I did a course so used my course work books and online blogs etc but I have heard good things about Scott Lowe's book Mastering ESXi 5.

What I would say is you can run 2008 with a lot less ram than M$ suggest so you could squeeze a few extra machines on ;o)

I did setup some Linux and a mac box as well to get an idea of how they performed and installing the tools as unlike windows core the Linux server was only command line so that took me some figuring out but on the plus side learning loads Linux commands helps with ESXi lol

Good luck with your learning mate keep us updated with your progress :smileycool:
