VCP exam first, class later

Hello,

I am preparing for the VCP exam (VCP5-DCV) and wanted to ask if there are any restrictions for taking the authorized class after the exam is passed. With the rumored content update for the 5.5 version, I wanted to make sure that I won't have to re-take the exam when the 5.5 classes and exam become available. I am planning on taking the exam this month and attending the class sometime in 2014.

Kind regards,

You can go ahead and take the 5.1 course and do the certification. As the exam hasn't been updated yet AFAIK.

Hi,

You can take the exam and then attend the course. the certification task will involve two tasks, one to complete the required training and the other to pass the exam. only after you finish both you will get your certificate Smiley Happy

And the classes are already available. Not sure if the exam is available too.

Thanks for your answer Abhilash. Would you know if I have to take the latest (5.5) class) or will any approved 5.x class do?

Few months back VMware has made changed in registration process for the certification, Now you have to register for the exam from VMware  site and then you have to book for the exam through Pearson. So probably when you register for the exam you wont be authorized to book for the exam.

No Aravind, I confirmed it and you can book the exam without attending the course. Its just not complete till you finish both.

Abhilash,

Thank you for your replies and apologies for delayed answer. On Wednesday, I received the authorization from VMware and was able to register for the exam. I have taken and passed the exam the next day. All questions on the exam were relevant to features shared by the 5.x line of products.

If anyone here is looking for tips, I have used the following resources to help me prepare for the exam:

- VMware vSphere core documentation set as my primary resource.

- Scott Lowe's book as a supplementary resource.

- Home built lab to explore all of the product's features.

- Production vSphere environment at work.

- Online resources - VCP 5 | mwpreston.net and VCP5 Practice Exams - The SLOG – SimonLong/Blog

- Vmware's VCP-DV blueprint and mock exam.

Good luck to all test takers,
